Match Preview, Dinamo Tbilisi vs Tottenham. (First Leg)

Our Europa League campaign starts here. A trip to Georgia in the two legged tie to take us to the Group Stages. On paper, we should cruise into the Group Stages, but away from home, in what is expected to be a hostile environment, it could prove a difficult task. I wasn’t too happy about having to qualify after coming fifth, but it’s another game for the youngsters, and team building, so it has it’s positives, but it has a few negatives, as it is close to our game against Swansea on Sunday. I fully expect a weakened team though. Honestly, and I think this goes for most, I don’t know what Dinamo Tbilisi can offer in this game, but it’ll be interesting to see!

Expecting a younger, and weaker team to face Tbilisi, but one certainly capable of a win against a supposedly weak team. We’ve got a lot of strength in depth, so I’m confident we can see off the challenge away from home, and finish off the tie at White Hart Lane. Etienne Capoue could get his first start for Spurs, and he’ll give us a lot of stability, and it’ll be great to see him play fully in a Spurs shirt, Sandro has a run for his money in the defensive midfield role, for sure! I wouldn’t expect Soldado to start, so Jermain Defoe should come in, or Harry Kane, who has been impressing for the Under 21’s. Solid Brad Friedel in goal is expected, with Lloris getting a rest on the bench. Younes Kaboul could get a start as he returns from an injury, which is a massive plus. Other youngsters I’d like to see get minutes are the extremely promising Tom Carroll and possibly the improving Shaq Coulthirst. Always nice to win, and it’ll be good for the youngsters to get some minutes with the first team. The game is being shown live on ITV 4, on Thursday, August 22nd, Kick Off at 5:00pm. COYS!

My predicted line up for the game in Georgia:
Naughton – Dawson – Kaboul – Fryers
Townsend – Capoue – Carroll – Chadli

Choosing a line up is obviously very difficult in a game like this, any team could be picked!

Match Review, Swansea vs Tottenham

Swansea 1-2 Tottenham
Michu 71′. Vertonghen 8′, Bale 21′

Great win, we move up to third place in the league and it’s all looking peachy once again. We started unbelievably well, scoring the early goal and then got the second through an unbelievable Gareth Bale strike. Our work rate was outstanding, we closed down Swansea when they had the ball, and with the ball, we kept possession well. Swansea were the better team in the second half, penned us back and got their goal through Michu. It was a nervy end to the game, but we defended honourably, and held out for a brilliant victory.

Jan Vertonghen was majestic in defence, making some crucial interceptions and tackles, and he also pitched in with a goal which he finished brilliantly. Jan has been amazing for us throughout the season, and today he showed exactly the same kind of form, maybe even better than earlier in the season. Gareth Bale was great today, once again, he took his goal brilliantly which eventually won us the match, but when he was needed to help out the team defensively he did his duty. Great performance. Mousa Dembele was limited in his attacking today, but he defended really well, and dominated the midfield. One of our most influential players this season and again today. Brad Friedel started in goal as Hugo Lloris was injured, and he did an amazing job, commanded his area well, and made some awesome saves. Great win, and it’s time to get a run going. Our next game is against Basel in the Europa league on Thursday. COYS!!

My player ratings for the team that faced Swansea at the Liberty Stadium:
Friedel – 8
Walker – 8
Dawson – 8
Vertonghen – 10 Man of the Match
Naughton – 7
Lennon – 7
Parker – 8
Dembele – 9
Sigurdsson – 7
Bale – 10
Adebayor – 5

Defoe – 7
Holtby – 8
Livermore – 6

Match Preview, Inter Milan vs Tottenham (2nd leg)

We are in a brilliant position, an unbelievable one in fact. With a 3-0 lead, you would think we are a sure thing for the next round, and you could be right. If we score one goal at the San Siro, in my opinion, we are through, we will not concede more than three goals, for sure. Inter were very poor when they came to the Lane, and we were very good, so we have to hope for a similar performance! Inter could have some key players back, and we have some key players out, so it will be difficult to get a win, but getting a draw would do very nicely!

Jermain Defoe will get some more time to get back to full fitness, and improve on his performances, a goal or two would help him very much! Aaron Lennon could be back for this game, and if he is, it’s a massive boost, he is extremely important to our team, as we saw against Liverpool. No Gareth Bale for this game, I don’t think it will be that big a loss, he’s a very important player, but in the position we are in, we won’t need him, deserves a rest. I wouldn’t be surprised if we put out a slightly weakened side, the likes of Tom Carroll and Caulker should both get an opportunity! I hope Lewis Holtby starts, he hasn’t had many opportunities, so this could be a good one for him! The game is televised, it will be shown on Itv 4, coverage starts at 5:30pm. COYS!!

My preferred team to face Inter Milan at the San Siro:
Walker – Gallas – Caulker – Naughton
Lennon – Parker – Carroll – Sigurdsson

Match Preview, Tottenham vs Inter Milan

We all know what happened when we faced Inter Milan last, probably one of my favourite moments as a Spurs fan. Gareth Bale destroying Inter Milan in the group stages of the Champions League in 2010, a 4-3 loss where Bale got a hat-trick, and a 3-1 win, another extraordinary Bale performance, a set of performances that put Bale on the world stage, and he has kept on growing since then. Inter Milan will be a hard test, their attack is decent, but without their main threat Millito, they will be weakened up top. Palacio is probably their main player, quick and he can score, he plays on either the right or the left, good player. Inter Milan’s defence is a shambles, and because of this I expect us to score a few goals, especially now that Defoe is back.

Gareth Bale will play well, he will remember what he did to them last time, and he will want to continue his form, and, demolish Inter Milan again. I really hope Defoe gets to start, he looked very good and sharp when he came on, on Sunday, so if he plays I would expect him to get a goal, or two! Brad Friedel will most likely start, as he usually does in the Europa League, and he’s not exactly a bad replacement, very experienced, and a great ‘keeper. André Villas-Boas will play a strong side as he usually does, and we will need to play a good game to get the win, a clean sheet is important to take into the 2nd leg, which will be extremely difficult at the San Siro. The game is televised on Itv 1, coverage starts at 19:45. Lets get a good win against Inter Milan, again! COYS!!

My preferred team to face Inter Milan at the Lane:
Walker – Gallas – Caulker – Assou-Ekotto
Lennon – Parker – Dembele – Holtby

Match Preview, Leeds United vs Tottenham

A difficult occasion for us, but one that we should definitely win. The FA cup is a trophy that we as a club have always had a soft spot for, and it’s a trophy we really want to win. We have the opportunity this season to do the double, with the Europa League and the FA cup, so it’s a definite incentive for our players. Leeds are a team that will try and tough it out, and try to defend well and nick a goal. Hopefully we expect this and get an early goal; if we do, the game will open up and we could win by a heavy margin.

Aaron Lennon will be returning to his former club, so he will want to show what he can do at Elland Road. Clint Dempsey will want to continue his scoring form in the FA cup after netting two in an impressive 3-0 win over Coventry, also after his performance against Manchester United, he will want to stay in the starting eleven so that he can continue his form. I expect a strong team, but in goal I expect Brad Friedel to play instead of Hugo Lloris. Hopefully we can get a big win at Elland Road to progress in the FA cup. The game is live on ESPN, coverage starts at 3:30pm on Sunday. COYS!!

My preferred team to face Leeds United in the FA cup:
Walker – Dawson – Caulker – Assou-Ekotto
Lennon – Carroll – Parker – Sigurdsson

Match Preview, Tottenham vs Coventry

This is our first game in the FA cup, a cup that we want to win. On paper we are the outstanding favourites, but anything can happen in the cup. Coventry are in League one, and so we could be putting out the youngsters. We are at home, so if we were to lose it would be disastrous! Coventry are a club in disarray after being relegated from the Championship and now sit eleventh in League One.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto could be involved, and Scott Parker should have his first start after returning from injury. Players such as Tom Carroll, Iago Falque and Andros Townsend could all play a part as we try to get to the next round of the FA cup. Brad Friedel should start in goal to give Hugo Lloris a rest as he is now our only other ‘keeper after Carlo Cudicini left and Gomes looks to be on the way out. Gylfi Sigurdsson should start after some quality performances in the Premier League. I hope that we can get a big win and secure our place in the next round of the FA cup, the worst result would be a draw as we have had a lot of games and another one would not be appreciated. The game is at 3pm on Saturday at the Lane. The game unfortunately is not televised. COYS!!

My preferred team to face Coventry in the FA cup:
Naughton – Gallas – Caulker – Assou-Ekotto
Falque – Parker – Carroll – Townsend
