Match Review, Stoke vs Tottenham.

Stoke 1-2 Tottenham.
N’Zonzi 2′. Dempsey 20′
Adam S/O 47′. Adebayor 83′

What a win. A hard fought victory at the Britannia for an extremely important three points. We knew it would be difficult, and it really was in the first half, when they got the early goal it was feared that we wouldn’t come back, and Stoke would defend, but we got back into it through an amazing Clint Dempsey goal, and from then on, it was all Tottenham. We left it late, but we don’t care, three points thanks to Emmanuel Adebayor. Charlie Adam got sent off for a second bookable offence, and it was definitely deserved, played horribly all game. Not a good way for Stoke to celebrate their 150th anniversary.

Clint Dempsey was exceptional, chased the ball down well, and when we needed him to produce, he came up with the goods, a goal and an assist, the perfect day for Clint. Adebayor was very good, he possibly should have been in the box more often as when he is, he can grab a goal, but that was the only criticism, link up play was superb, and right at the death, he got a really important, match winning goal, some could say, he’s back. Jan Vertonghen played at left back today, a position I don’t feel he has adapted to well, but he was great, his crossing was good, offensively played well when needed, and then amazing when needed at the back. Good performance. Hugo Lloris had a tough time, which was expected, but he seemed to deal with it better and better as the game went on, wasn’t particularly needed in the second half. An awesome three points, we deserved the win. It’s still possible, we’ve done our job. Keep the faith, and support Wigan on Tuesday! Our next game is the last game of the season, at White Hart Lane against Sunderland, lets go out with a bang. COYS!!

Match Review, Tottenham vs Manchester City

Tottenham 3-1 Manchester City
Dempsey 75′. Nasri 5′
Defoe 79′
Bale 82′

Great win, unbelievable. We thrashed the champions, and that feels awesome, but even better is that we have a really great chance of making the top four. In a game that we were the underdogs, we came out on top, it’s the Spurs way! Man City are a really good side, they deserved the lead in the first half, but our second half performance was absolutely awesome. The subs that AVB made changed the game, he’s a blooming genius. Both teams in Manchester, destroyed.

20130421-195748.jpg
Gareth Bale was awesome, he started slowly, but then he really got into the game, showed his quality. World Class. Clint Dempsey put in a great performance, worked hard throughout the game, and when he got his opportunity, he took it well, doesn’t deserve the criticism he gets. Tommy Huddlestone came on, and changed the game, once again, his passing is immaculate, playing really well at the moment. Lewis Holtby came on and he really played well, probably the best we’ve seen of him so far, his little flicks and passes really helped our cause today. Jermain is back in the goals! He did exactly what we needed him to do, get a goal, and boy did he take it well! Top four is in our sights, we can do this. Our next game is against Wigan at the DW Stadium. Must win. COYS!!

Match Review, FC Basel vs Tottenham (2nd Leg)

FC Basel 2-2 Tottenham. After Extra Time.
Basel win 4-1 on Penalties.

Valiant performance, we put everything into the game and in the end, extremely unfortunate. Basel are an awesome team, and have loads of quality, and probably deserved to go through over the two legs, but it’s hard to take, I hate penalties. I’m proud, proud of the effort we put in, and in the end it just wasn’t enough. Dempsey put us ahead, but we fell 2-1 down and we needed to save the tie, and Dempsey scored his second to make it 2-2. At this point, we had the momentum, but a Vertonghen red card just made it too much of an uphill task. Unfortunate.

20130412-025655.jpg
Everyone put in a performance, everyone showed passion, desire and quality, we were just unlucky. Lewis Holtby worked his heart out, put everything into this game, just hoping we could get through, the fact he broke down in tears after we lost on penalties tells you how much he cares, love him. Tom Carroll was top class when he came on, his passing was great, worked hard and made some great tackles, one with a bright future, could be world class. Michael Dawson was a warrior, put his heart and soul into the game, match saving interceptions and tackles. Captain fantastic. A majestic run in a great competition, we’ve done our club proud. Tottenham ’till I die. Our next game is in the Premier League against Manchester City. Big push for Champions League and top four. COYS!!

Match Preview, Tottenham vs Everton

Big game, two teams fighting for Champions League football, both have good squads and it looks like it’s going to be a tough game. Both teams have injuries or suspensions so it’s going to be a scrappy game, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there were very little goals. Pienaar and Fellaini are out for Everton, also Baines and Mirallas are both doubts. This is good news for us as Everton don’t have a lot of strength in depth, they will struggle at the Lane. Bale, Lennon and Defoe are all out for us, but we have a good squad, and I think although it’s a massive blow that they are out, we have good, hungry players to replace them. Younes Kaboul could be back on the bench for us, but I wouldn’t expect to see him play a part at all yet.

20130406-161527.jpg
Lewis Holtby is facing his boyhood club, and has said it’s a dream to play against Everton, I expect him to start, and I wouldn’t be surprised to say he was Man of the Match after the game, he is going to be right up for it. Clint Dempsey could also start, can play on the left, and he can score us goals, something we are lacking at the moment, he’s got the talent, just needs to put in the performance. Scott Parker needs to up his performance from Thursday, he was poor, but now needs to show the same sort of form he is capable. Adebayor scored on Thursday and looked like he was trying to recreate his old form, and lets hope he can bang in another goal against Everton! It’s a big game, and a big opportunity to stay in third place. We can do it! The game is televised, it is on ESPN, kick off at 2:05pm. COYS!!

My preferred team to face Everton at White Hart Lane:
Lloris
Walker – Dawson – Vertonghen – Assou-Ekotto
Sigurdsson – Parker – Dembele – Dempsey
Holtby
Adebayor

Match Review, Tottenham vs Lyon

Tottenham 2-1 Lyon

What a brilliant game, it had everything that a Champions League tie would have, excitement, tension and quality. We played quite well, but we were not at our best, silly mistakes were made and Lyon had a fair amount of opportunities that could have led to a completely different game, thankfully we had a defence and goalkeeper in great form on the night. Lyon are a very good side, with very good players and we did very well to get all three points. Our fans were magnificent as well, best support in the world.

20130215-134241.jpg
Gareth Bale, what a player, definitely in the top five all time best players we have ever had at the Lane, he was outstanding, he showed the world why he is worth over £60 million, he’s the best player in the Premier League for definite. He has mastered his free kick now, I’ve not seen anyone score two goals from free kicks of that quality in all my life, world class. Jan Vertonghen was brilliant, he made some great tackles, and his interceptions were class. William Gallas had his best game in a Tottenham shirt for a while, he was a leader, and he worked very hard, great performance. Adebayor was completely ineffective, he didn’t get into the game and his first touch was poor, this performance rubbed off on Dempsey and make it seem that was poor too, but actually he didn’t really get an opportunity to get the ball down and play. What a win to take into the next leg, lets get a win over there as well to secure our place! Our next game is the second leg of this tie away at Lyon. Our next Premier League game is against West Ham at Upton Park. COYS!!

My player ratings for the team that faced Lyon at the Lane:
Friedel – 8
Walker – 8
Gallas – 8
Vertonghen – 8
Assou-Ekotto – 8
Lennon – 7
Parker – 8
Dembele – 7
Bale – 9 Man of the Match
Dempsey – 6
Adebayor – 4

Holtby – 8
Sigurdsson – 7
Livermore – 7

Match Preview, Tottenham vs Newcastle United

I feel like this could be an exciting game, both teams are very good in attacking positions, and both midfields are of the highest quality. I expect lots of chances, and an ‘end to end’ sort of match. Newcastle are coming into this match high in confidence after beating Chelsea 3-2 so they will try to get at us, and make it very difficult for our defence. Their main player at the moment is Moussa Sissoko, he’s been brilliant, a quality signing for the Toon. When Sissoko gets the ball he will be dangerous, Parker will have to be at his best to stop him. Yohan Cabaye is a player that will cause us problems, looks threatening every time he is on the attack, and he can help out defensively as well. Great player.

20130208-171730.jpg
Gareth Bale is in top form, world class form in fact, he’s been scoring goals for fun for Spurs and for his national side, Wales. He may be used as a striker for this game, and I think that’s a brilliant idea, he’s got pace, power, and at the moment he’s scoring goals! With Jermain Defoe out, and Adebayor likely to only be on the bench, Bale is, in my opinion, the best option. Lewis Holtby could get his first start on what would be his home debut, he’s been brilliant and the best thing is that he can only improve more! Clint Dempsey will probably start on the left, like he did against West Brom, this was effective, he knows the position very well. Hopefully we can get all three points, and move up to third, even if it is only for a couple of hours. The game is live on Sky Sports, with coverage starting at Midday, kick off at 12:45pm. COYS!!

My preferred line up to face Newcastle at the Lane:
Lloris
Walker – Dawson – Vertonghen – Assou-Ekotto
Lennon – Parker – Dembele – Dempsey
Holtby
Bale

Match Review, Leeds United vs Tottenham

Leeds United 2-1 Tottenham

What a dreadful result and performance. Extremely disappointed to be out of the FA cup, it’s a cup that we wanted to win as it is a cup that we have a lot of history in and to be out is devastating. Leeds were average at best, but they worked extremely hard and deserved the win. It was the fact that we were so poor, makes it such a hard defeat to take. There were some brilliant performances from the Leeds players, Luke Varney and Ross McCormack gave our defence hell, which is hard to believe seeing as our centre backs deal with some of the best attacking forces in the world and don’t have that many problems, very disappointing.

20130127-230843.jpg
Clint Dempsey, got a lot of stick today, but it was very unneeded because he was playing in a role that he shouldn’t have, we lack a striker, so this window must bring the arrival of a world class finisher. Our centre back pairing of Caulker and Vertonghen was absolutely shocking, for brilliant centre backs they looked scared of an average Leeds attack. Assou-Ekotto looked quite solid today, a bright light in an awful display. Parker was very good as well, he gave it his all, a true leader he deserved to be captain today. An awful result, but we have to move on and get our form back on the right track. Our next game is in the Premier League against Norwich on Wednesday at 7:45pm. COYS!!

My player ratings for the team that faced Leeds United:
Friedel – 7

Match Preview, Leeds United vs Tottenham

A difficult occasion for us, but one that we should definitely win. The FA cup is a trophy that we as a club have always had a soft spot for, and it’s a trophy we really want to win. We have the opportunity this season to do the double, with the Europa League and the FA cup, so it’s a definite incentive for our players. Leeds are a team that will try and tough it out, and try to defend well and nick a goal. Hopefully we expect this and get an early goal; if we do, the game will open up and we could win by a heavy margin.

20130125-204101.jpg
Aaron Lennon will be returning to his former club, so he will want to show what he can do at Elland Road. Clint Dempsey will want to continue his scoring form in the FA cup after netting two in an impressive 3-0 win over Coventry, also after his performance against Manchester United, he will want to stay in the starting eleven so that he can continue his form. I expect a strong team, but in goal I expect Brad Friedel to play instead of Hugo Lloris. Hopefully we can get a big win at Elland Road to progress in the FA cup. The game is live on ESPN, coverage starts at 3:30pm on Sunday. COYS!!

My preferred team to face Leeds United in the FA cup:
Friedel
Walker – Dawson – Caulker – Assou-Ekotto

Match Review, Tottenham vs Manchester United

Tottenham 1-1 Manchester United

What a result. After going behind, we held on and didn’t concede again and this gave us a massive chance for us to nick a point. We dominated the match from start to finish which is something that you don’t say very often against Manchester United, but we never got the goal early enough to push on and try and win it. We were brilliant, we showed maturity and a calmness that I haven’t seen before from Tottenham in a big game like this. This maturity could be the thing that could push a title challenge in these coming years, this game may be the beginning of something big at the Lane.

20130120-201605.jpg
Clint Dempsey showed his quality in the box, his goal was brilliantly taken, all day he worked hard and at the end it payed off for him. Aaron Lennon was, no doubt our best player, he worked extremely hard, defensively he was brilliant and in attack he was even better, everything we did came through him, our player of the season so far in my opinion. Scott Parker was superb, he had a very tough job dealing with Van Persie, Cleverley and Kagawa, but deal with them he did, his tackling was spot on. We may not have won the match, but it really helps us in our race for the top four, or the race for third. Our next game is in the FA Cup against Leeds at Elland Road, the game is live on ESPN. Our next Premier League game is against Norwich City at Carrow Road. COYS!!

My player ratings for the game against Manchester United:

Match Preview, Tottenham vs Manchester United

This will be an extremely hard test for us. To do the double over United? Impossible? Maybe not this season. It’s a season of firsts against United, we took all three points for the first time in 23 years at Old Trafford, so doing the double would be absolutely mind-blowing. Manchester United are on an unbelievable run, and at the top of the league, so it is going to be very difficult to get anything from the match. We know everything about former Arsenal man Robin Van Persie, and he is going to be extremely difficult to control, so Dawson and Vertonghen will have to be on top of their games. Scott Parker will have to be keeping tabs on Wayne Rooney, if he is allowed time and space he will cause us problems, and lots of them. One thing that is for certain in this game is that White Hart Lane will be rocking!

20130119-003457.jpg
As always Gareth Bale needs to be playing well, when he plays, we play. Clint Dempsey should start as Adebayor is away at the African Cup of Nations, he’s been in good form, and scoring goals so hopefully he can bag us the winner again! It will be interesting to see who starts at left back, wether it will be Assou-Ekotto or Kyle Naughton, for experience, I would personally play Assou-Ekotto. Mousa Dembele will have to dominate in midfield alongside Scott Parker and their partnership will have to blossom very quickly, but I’m sure it has all been planned out at Hotspur Way. The game is on Sunday at 4pm, the game is live on Sky Sports, coverage starts at 3:30pm. Another 3-2 win would do nicely! COYS!!

My preferred team to face Manchester United at the Lane:
